Church Buildings. An Archive of Post-War Modernism

ed. Piet Eckert und Wim Eckert, published by Triest Verlag

With Kirchenbauten. Ein Archiv der Nachkriegsmoderne / Church Buildings. An Archive of Post-War Modernism, Piet and Wim Eckert edit a comprehensive study of postwar sacred architecture in Germany. The book examines church buildings not only as historical artefacts, but as constructive and spatial responses to the conditions of reconstruction after 1945. Central to the publication are questions of material, structure, and space and their relevance to contemporary issues such as resource-conscious and circular building practices.

For the first time, selected churches are documented and systematically compared through historical photographs, figure-ground plans, floor plans, sections, and detailed drawings. Bringing together projects by key architects of postwar modernism, the publication establishes an archive that reconsiders the constructive strategies of the period from a contemporary perspective.
