Zurich / Competition 2010, 1st Prize / Project 2010-2012 / Realization 2012-2016 The project for the mixed-use buildings aims to set new standards for urban sustainability and to play a pioneering role in establishing Zurich’s 2000-watt society. The site, Baufeld H, is near the central station, yet faces the small scale quarter of the Langstrasse. The complex will house apartments, retail, gastronomy, and office spaces. The 25h Design Hotel will decisively mark the presence along Langstrasse. The project will comply with the Swiss Minergie P-Eco Standard and will be among the first buildings in Europe to operate with zero CO2 emissions. Energy sources for heating and cooling are the sun, rain water, and waste heat. Other goals include socio-cultural interests, integrated services, affordable commercial premises, and public spaces that are linked to the surrounding neighborhood. Opening is planned for 2016.
